Early spring for the living room

Something interesting happens to me every year at the end of February: It's still cold enough to feel like winter; and anyone who lives in an older building knows the morning condensation on the windows. At the same time, the light already has that new quality.

And then, one random afternoon, the living room suddenly seems as if it's decorated in shades that are a shade too dark. Even though nothing has actually changed.

I think that's the moment when early spring begins at our house. Not necessarily outside, where it's often still windy, drizzling, and you have to keep your jacket on. But inside, where we start to subtly orient ourselves towards the brighter season without really noticing it.

This isn't about decluttering as a sport. Less isn't automatically better. It's more about creating new relationships between things, through rearranging or making conscious purchases, to make room for the good things that await us this year. It's about light surfaces that reflect light and calming colors that indicate the transition from dark to light: warm beige , soft gray , and wood that looks like it's bathed in daylight.

For me, light is the greatest interior designer. It can transform the same couch into either a cozy winter retreat for sipping hot cocoa with whipped cream, or a cheerful spot for leafing through a magazine in the first rays of spring sunshine. That's precisely why small changes can make such a big difference!
A different furniture arrangement, a new coffee table , reupholstering the beloved sofa. A lighter-colored armchair . Or a sideboard that doesn't stand as a block in the room, but rather blends seamlessly into the overall design.

And suddenly there's movement again, without having to paint the walls or completely redecorate the house.

Perhaps that's the best thing about early spring: you don't have to buy everything new to feel new. Sometimes a single piece is enough to give a room a different atmosphere. Everything is connected. And a small difference can make the whole composition sound so much more cheerful.

If you're also feeling the need for a spring refresh, then be sure to check out our latest arrivals . In my highlights below this blog post, I've paid particular attention to light fabrics, calming shapes, and inviting materials.
